Billabong Sanctuary

Billabong Sanctuary is located on the highway 17kms south of Townsville. The sanctuary covers 25 acres and displays Australia’s native animals in their natural habitat – rainforest, eucalypt forest and wetlands.

Hold a koala, cuddle a wombat, hold a crocodile, hand feed free ranging kangaroos or wrap a python around your neck. These are just some of the unforgettable hands on adventures you can experience at the Billabong. There is an additional charge for holding koalas and wombats. A percentage of the proceeds of photos taken with koalas and wombats goes towards conserving Australia’s wildlife. The Sanctuary is dedicated to conservation through species survival programmes.

Reef HQ

Reef HQ is the world's best living reef experience.

Its innovative exhibits provide a close encounter with the creatures of the Great Barrier Reef.
Its centerpiece is the world's largest coral reef ecosystem on land, living and breathing as it does in the wild.
With a host of live exhibits and a full daily program, Reef HQ is the first page or the closing chapter in a fantastic Great Barrier Reef holiday.

A 20-metre long acrylic walk-through tunnel allows excellent viewing into the 750 000 litre Predator Exhibit.
The wreck of the S.S. Yongala provides an eery backdrop and is home to shark species such as the blacktip and whitetip reef sharks; leopard and nurse sharks live together with stingrays, giant trevally and a green turtle. Watching them feed is quite a spectacle.
The tunnel also reveals a 2.5 million litre Coral Reef Exhibit (the largest in the world), with its hard and soft corals, providing a home for the thousands of beautiful fish, giant clams, sea cucumbers, sea stars and other coral reef creatures.
Reef HQ is conveniently located in the heart of Townsville, within easy walking distance to Flinders Street Mall and ferry terminal and is open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm every day of the year except Christmas day.
Admission is valid all day and all activities are included.
Group rates are available for tour groups of 20 or more, with advance reservations. Reef HQ is your opportunity to visit the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet, sunburnt or seasick. Whether it's education, study or fun, there is nowhere else like Reef HQ.
