Below you will find
a general overview regarding taxation in Australia.
Quarantine Conditions
Australia has strict quarantine conditions put in place to help protect
its unique flora and fauna from outside diseases.
If you have any items which may harm the delicate Australian environment,
you MUST declare them at customs when you enter the country.
Items you must declare include plants, fresh and packaged food, fruit,
eggs, vegetables, meat, animals and seeds.
Special bins are located as you leave your aircraft to enable you to discard
any unwanted items.
Ensure that you use the correct exits from baggage halls if you are declaring
material to customs.
Don't think that because you have to relinquish something to customs you
will never see the it again. Many items are allowed in after inspection
and treatment, although banned items will not be allowed in.
Please note that the quarantine system is not designed to ruin your holiday.
However, if you are found concealing something which requires quarantine
inspection, you may be fined on-the-spot or even prosecuted.
Each Australian state
and territory has restrictions on the movement of fruit, vegetables, flowers,
plants, soil and seeds to protect valuable fruit and vegetable industries
from harmful pests and diseases.
Following your arrival
in Australia and before you travel interstate, please check what products
you can take with you. For more information please contact state quarantine
authorities on the Freecall number 1800 084 881.
